Eurotrade was founded inLondon in 1992, by Group Managing Director Iain MacMillan Davie as a scrap and residue trader. The company enjoyed strong, rapid growth throughout the 1990’s focusing on trading scrap copper and copper alloys. Trading was truly global, with mainly Russian, Eastern European, Western European and African purchases and sales in Asia and Europe. Eurotrade has since grown into a full service recycler for all metals and are traders of minerals.
In 1998 Eurotrade sold some of its equity to the LME registered refining group, Metallo Chimique International (MCI) and relocated its core trading activities to South Africa, as the Group identified considerable growth opportunities within the African Continent, and by 2001 was trading all scrap metal grades both ferrous and non ferrous.
In 2003 Iain MacMillan Davie bought out MCI from Eurotrade and invested in Lee Scrap Metals and ScrapMet, two well-established scrap metal dealerships in Kwa- Zulu Natal forming the largest independent scrap metal processor in the Province. Now with its head office in Durban, the busiest port in Africa, the Group focuses on scrap metal recycling, waste management, mineral processing, logistics, venture capital and real estate development .
As a full service recycler, the Group operates six branches, covering scrap retail, industrial accounts and inter-merchant purchases, a fleet of trucks, bin service, processing machinery such as a 1000mt shear, excavators, high density balers, croppers, bobcats, roating head forklifts , employs 200 staff, has a turnover in excess of USD20 million per annum, owns USD3.5M of real estate, and has net Group assets in excess of USD5M.
Eurotrade is also proud to be members of the BIR, MMTA, RASA (Recyclers Association of South Africa) and the Durban Chamber of Commerce.
Iain MacMillan Davie has been the Chairman of the Recyclers Association of South Africa (RASA) since 2003 and serves on various government action groups.
